Healthcare for Baby Boomer and Better Women
Aging with grace and dignity is quite possible.
Getting older doesn’t have to mean cutting back on living your life fully. Many women your age come to us looking for answers about menopause, for example –
- When does menopause start?
- How bad will it be?
- Is there anything I can do to speed menopause or relieve the symptoms?
Other women ask us about staying fit and healthy, and want to know which exercises are best. Your metabolism is indeed changing, so you’ll notice some subtle – and not so subtle shifts.
This is a time in your life when healthcare naturally becomes more important. Some women experience weight gain. Others suddenly have bladder problems to deal with, or are having more pain during or after sexual intercourse.
What we can do for you
There are many things we can do to help. A few are mandatory, such as breast examinations (mammograms) and checking your bone density. An annual check-up is a must, as are eating the right kinds of foods and exercising regularly.
If you’re experiencing some of the symptoms of menopause, and they’re inhibiting your daily lifestyle, then please talk with us. There are a number of steps we can take to help relieve these symptoms.
We’ll talk with you about your diet, discuss the changes taking place with your body, and even help you figure out the best ways for you to lose (or gain) weight. Your weight is important, as is regular exercise. As you get older, you are at increased risk of diabetes and heart disease. Thinner women are more prone to osteoporosis than women who carry more weight. Depending on your current level of fitness, we’ll offer you various exercise routines that are specifically designed to strengthen your bones.
Recommended tests for women over 40
As you age and your metabolism changes, we’ll start screening you for more specific illnesses that are often associated with aging, but are also influenced by your genes. Such tests may include:
- Periodic check-ups for blood pressure to make sure you’re not at risk for heart disease, stroke or a heart attack
- Total blood cholesterol measurement (high cholesterol constitutes a risk factor for heart disease.)
- Mammogram (an X-ray to detect the early signs of breast cancer)
- The PAP smear test to screen for cervical cancer
